Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne will be hunting to equal a Test world record when he bats again in the next Test match against the West Indies starting on Monday (29th).

Karunaratne has been in brilliant form recently with the bat, scoring 733 runs at an average of 122 in his last 6 innings.

Incidentally, he has crossed the 50 run mark on all 6 instances, joining an elite company of 25 other batsmen who have had a similar streak of 6 consecutive half centuries.

Former Skipper Kumar Sangakkara is the only other Sri Lankan in this list of batsmen who have had a 6 innings streak of 50 plus scores. Sangakkara had an absolutely peach of a streak in 2007 when he scored a remarkable 915 runs in 6 innings, with two double centuries and two 150+ scores.

Later in 2014, Sangakkara equaled the record by scoring 7 consecutive half centuries, including a triple century against Bangladesh.

Dimuth will join Sangakkara and 6 other batsmen if he can hit another 50+ score in the 1st innings of the next test match, equaling the record for having scored the most consecutive 50+ scores in Test Cricket.

With the form he is in and considering the home conditions and the opponents, it is a great opportunity for the skipper to break the world record by scoring 8 consecutive 50+ scores in test cricket, which has never been achieved by any batsmen before in the history of the game. (NewsWire)
