Why Sri Lanka will be in Group 1 even if they finish 1 or 2 in qualifiers

Sri Lanka will be starting off the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign tomorrow with the first qualifier game against Namibia.

Sri Lanka will play against Namibia, Ireland and Netherlands in the group and required to finish in the top two in the group to make it to the Super 12 round.

Despite the position 1 or 2 in the qualifiers group, if Sri Lanka make it to the top two, Sri Lanka will be going as the A1 as per ICC Rules. This means if Sri Lanka qualify, Sri Lanka will join the Group 1 in the Super 12 rounds and will face off England, Australia, South Africa and West Indies along with another team that qualify through first round (Not Bangladesh).
