Bangladesh Cricket Board director and former captain Khalid Mahmud has tested positive for Covid-19, just a day before the start of the 1st ODI match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

BCB sources further revealed that Mahmud had returned two negative PCR tests after returning from Sri Lanka last month where Bangladesh played 2 Test matches, before testing positive in the latest PCR test.

Mahmud was supposed to take up the same role as Bangladesh team director in home ODIs against Sri Lanka as well.

Khalid Mahmud’s Covid positive test is unlikely to cause any concerns for Bangladesh players as he has not joined the team after they started training on 18th May following the Eid break.

49-year-old Mahmood played 17 Tests and 77 ODIs for his country. He has been serving as BCB Director since 2013.
