The Colombo Colts Cricket Club has requested Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to provide an opportunity for cricketers to commence practices under strict health guidelines.

In a letter to the Minister, President of the cricket club Nishantha Ranatunga pointed out that under the health guidelines the opening of Gymnasiums has been permitted, but honing their skills through actual practicing, has not been opened yet.

Ranatunga called on Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to take up the request with the COVID Coordinating Committee and obtain authority to enable the cricketers to train under strictly supervised conditions.

He pointed out that if the authorities do not consider the request, the players and coaching staff will continue to underperform and be subject to criticism.

Apart from cricketers selected to national squads, all other first class crickters have not been able to practice due to Covid restrictions. (CricWire)
