India climbed to the second spot in the ICC World Test Championship after its 188-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series in Chattogram on Sunday.
South Africa’s six-wicket defeat to Australia in the first Test in Brisbane enabled India to jump from the third spot to second, hours after its win over Bangladesh.
India, with a 55.77 points percentage (PCT), is now ahead of South Africa (54.54) and Sri Lanka (53.33) in the World Test Championship standings. The WTC cycle is currently witnessing a three-team race between Sri Lanka, South Africa and India for the 2nd spot while Australia sits on the 1st spot comfortably.
India has five Tests remaining – one against Bangladesh (December 22-26) and four against Australia at home from February. South Africa has four games left, 2 against Aussies and 2 against the Windies. Sri lanka has the tough draw against the defending Test Champions New Zealand with two test to be played in Kiwi soil.
