SL vs WI 2nd Test : Mathews injury update

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Angelo Mathews’ participation in the ongoing second test against the West Indies is likely to be restricted due to a thigh strain.

Mathews picked up a thigh strain on the second morning of the test match, while running a single in Sri Lanka’s first innings.

He, however, ended up retiring hurt while on 12 runs and only returned on field after eight overs to bat at No 10, but decided to remain at the crease instead of running singles.

Despite hitting two straight sixes and a four, he became the last batter to be dismissed for 29.

Mathews did not return to play when the West Indies commenced their innings, even though he was expected to bowl a few overs.

It has been reported that the Sri Lanka cricketer will be assesed over the next 24- hours given his previous long standing injuries.

Mathews is scheduled to captain Colombo Stars in the Lanka Premier League which will begin soon after the current test match. (NewsWire)
