Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene is set to join the Sri Lanka under-19 cricket team as a Consultant from October 2021.
Jayawardene will reportedly help prepare the team for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup which is scheduled to be held in the West Indies next year.
Sri Lanka Cricket Technical Committe Chairman Aravinda de Silva confirmed that Mahela Jayawardene has agreed to work with the Sri Lanka U-19 boys.
He is expected to guide the junior crickters along with U-19 coaching staff.
Mahela Jayawardene is currently overseas and will return to Sri Lanka after the Indian Premier League (IPL) in September.
He is expected to work with the U-19 boys after that for several months.
Mahela Jayawardene has reportedly informed the technical committee he will be working with the team free of charge.
The Under-19 Sri Lanka team will participate in the Youth Asia Cup which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the end of 2021.
The Sri Lankan team will face India and England during the tournament. (NewsWire)
