Slinger Malinga says that young All-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan is a valuable asset to Sri Lanka Cricket, who are looking to build a team targeting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Sharing his views through his YouTube channel, Malinga said that even though Lakshan is a good T20 player, he can be much more valuable in the 50-over format.

Malinga also said that he believes Dhananjaya Lakshan is currently the best in-swing bowler in the country.

“The best thing I saw in him is that he is Sri Lanka’s best in-swing bowler at present. He has the natural ability to swing the ball into the right hander. If you see at International level, most successful bowlers are those who mastered the in-swinger” Malinga went on to say.

He also added that Lakshan should be given the opportunity to bowl with the new ball to better utilize his ability to swing the ball, especially in England where the conditions are conducive for swing bowing.

“I think this player is a good investment done by the selection committee and the SLC, targeting the 2023 World Cup” Lasith added.

“Dhananjaya Lakshan has the potential to play the role which Angelo Mathews played at his peak as an all-rounder. He needs proper guidance and opportunity to perform at ideal situations to achieve this and I think he will be successful”

“My belief is that by 2023, Lakshan will be a player Sri Lanka team cannot do without” Malinga concluded.
