New Zealand’s Devon Conway scored a brilliant century against England on his Debut yesterday in the 1st Test Match played between the two sides.

Conway remained unbeaten on 136* at close of play on Day one, helping his side to a commanding position at 246/3. With his brilliant debut performance at the Home of Cricket, Conway became the batsman to score the highest runs on debut at Lords.

Previous best was former India Captain Saurav Ganguly’s 131, which he made way back in 1996. Conway also broke the record of the highest debut score for a New Zealander at an Away venue. It was previously held by skipper Kane Williamson when he made 131 on debut against India in Ahmedabad.

Incidentally, 3 Sri Lankans are among the last 11 Centuries scored by Away batsmen ( Non – English ) at Lords.

Tillakaratne Dilshan – 193 (2011)

Kumar Sangakkara – 147 (2014)

Angelo Mathews – 102 (2014)

Both Sangakkara’s and Mathew’s centuries came in the famous drawn test match in Lords, where in the 2nd innings, No.11 Nuwan Pradeep survived the last over of the match. Sri Lanka won the 2nd Test, also in dramatic fashion to complete a remarkable Test Series win in England.
