K. Mathivanan, Bandula Warnapura, and Nishantha Ranatunga have decided to withdraw from the Sri Lanka Cricket Elections. SLC elections to select new office bearers was scheduled to take place virtually, on the 20th of May 2021.

Mathivanan, Warnapura and Ranatunga had submitted nominations to contest SLC elections for the posts of President, Vice President, and Secretary respectively.

In a statement issued today the trio had said that they have decided to withdraw from the election and expressed their displeasure in the current voting and election system of SLC.

“Sri Lanka Cricket now languishes at the bottom of the ICC rankings in all three formats of the game, not least due to the maladministration and chicanery of its incumbent office bearers,” they said in a letter to the Elections Commission.

With the withdrawal of the main contenders, Current President Shammi Silva and his camp are expected to take control of SLC for another two years.
