On this day in 2008: Jayasuriya scores the 1st ever century by an MI player

On this day in 2008, Master Blaster Sanath Jayasuriya scored a magnificent century in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against The Chennai Super Kings.

Opening the batting for the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of the IPL, Jayasuriya smashed an unbeaten 114 off just 48 balls, helping MI thrash CSK by 9 wickets with over 6 overs remaining.

This was the first ever IPL century scored by an MI batsman. This innings still stands as the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan in an IPL match.
