Dimuth Karunaratne’s stint as captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team has come to an end. As per official sources, Dimuth has been informed by the selectors that he will not be considered for ODI selection, thereby losing the captaincy of the ODI side which he has been officially holding since 2019.

Left handed batsman Kusal Janith Perera is likely to take over as captain of the SL ODI team, starting from the Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh which starts later this month.

Karunaratane has captained Sri Lanka in 17 ODIs since the beginning of 2019 Cricket World Cup. Sri Lanka registered 10 wins and 7 losses under Dumuth’s captaincy.
